As Steve Kerr himself said “We just stopped playing, we disconnected”, and that is exactly what happened when the Warriors blew a 31 point lead towards the end of the 3rd quarter in game 2 of the series against the Clippers. Four minutes into the game, Demarcus Cousins makes a steal and then runs towards the basket only to injury his quad. Similar to Jimmy Garoppolo’s ACL injury in week 3 of the NFL season last year, it was an injury that did not look bad at first, but would later turn out to be catastrophic! And for Demarcus himself, the fears could have only started once he hit the floor. When the Warriors signed Boogie last off season, he was coming off a torn left Achilles injury that he suffered while playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. The injury caused him to miss the 2018 portion of the 2018-2019 season. Despite the Boogie injury, as the game went on it looked like it was gonna be an easy win to go up 2-0 against the Clippers before heading south to LA! However, despite Steph’s 29 points, KD’s 21 points, and Kevon Looney’s 19 points off the bench, Lou Williams, Danilo Gallinari and Montrezl Harrell lead the comeback for the Clippers scoring 36, 24 and 25 points. Durant and Patrick Beverly both fouled out as their rivalry continues. What Steve said in the postgame press conference might seem simple, but really, it’s exactly what happened! They stopped playing! They disconnected! It’s what they’ve been doing for a lot of the regular season, but in the playoffs? They just can’t expect to blow out every team despite being the best team in the NBA! This series against the 8th seed Clippers could become a trap if they don’t step up their game and play all 48 minutes! Let’s say they make it to the Finals, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks or whatever team they end up meeting in the finals will take advantage of them if they take a break, if they meet the Houston Rockets in the next round of the playoffs they could easily knock them off like they almost did last year if they decide to quit because they have a big lead! Game 3 starts in an hour and all they need to do is play all 48 minutes of basketball, guard Lou Williams and they should be victorious! However the Clippers have the momentum in this series, so they need to play their A game for four straight quarters!
